"The unfathomably good"

March 5, 2017 Preacher: Adam Utecht Series: Seeking the Lost

Topic: Parables Scripture: Luke 10:25–37, Luke 9:51

"When the day drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem" (Luke 9:51). Jesus was determined to go to Jerusalem even though he knew he would suffer and die for our sins on the cross. But it would be alright. It is the reason Jesus came. He came seeking the lost. This is the first message in our new series for Lent.

In this message Pastor Adam unpacks the parable of the Good Samaritan. The question that launched this parable was, "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus never really answers the question because it is the wrong question. Jesus answers the question, "How can I be a neighbor?" Be like the Samaritan (go and do likewise). While the Samaritan is good, there is one who is unfathomably good. Jesus is like the Samaritan, but Jesus did more. It is the knowledge of the gospel that fuels our ability to go and do likewise. The Holy Spirit empowers us to go and do likewise.
